Cambridge Maths Hub

The Maths Hubs programme brings together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network of 34 hubs, each locally led by an outstanding school or college.

 It is a new way of harnessing all Maths leadership and expertise within an area, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.

In April 2014 the Department for Education announced that a national network of maths hubs seeking to match the standards achieved in top-performing east Asian countries - including Japan, Singapore and China - was to be set up.

Initially 32 schools and academy trusts were chosen as ‘pace-setters’ to, among other things, implement the Asian-style mastery approach to maths.

After a tough application process Comberton Academy was successful. This was due to its track record in maths attainment, school to school support and the ability of its mathematics department to lead professional development. 

The Cambridge Maths Hub offers free quality Professional Development to Maths teachers across the county. This mainly takes the form of work groups: Teachers learn new strategies or receive new ideas, put them into practice in the classroom, reflect collaboratively and then refine. Most of the sessions are led by outstanding teachers willing to share good practice.
