The international dimension: extra-curricular

International developments within and beyond the curriculum are led by the international co-ordinators within each school, supported by the senior lead.

There is a cross-subject CAT International Working Group, but also smaller groups within individual schools to ensure that school-specific projects have appropriate expertise and leadership attached to them.

Projects are many and varied, but have the aim of enriching the educational opportunities for all of our students, and enabling them to develop their global citizenship.  A few, specific examples from each school are:

Comberton Village College

  • Connecting Classrooms
Connecting Classrooms is a global education programme for schools. It is designed to help young people learn about global themes and become responsible global citizens, as well as giving them the skills to work in a worldwide economy. One connecting classrooms initiative seeks to partner two schools in Sub-Saharan Africa with one British school.  Given our long-standing partnerships with Edendale school in Pretoria, South Africa and Escola Do 1 in Maputo, Mozambique we were already ideally placed to take up the opportunity, which is now in its 3rd year.

The Global Learning Programme

The Department for International Development (DFID) funds the Global Learning Programme, an initiative to create a national network of schools committed to equipping their students to succeed in a globalised world by delivering effective teaching and learning about international development and global issues.

Comberton is the lead school in the local network of secondary and primary schools, working together to share ideas, resources and practice for developing global citizenship through our subject teaching.  All four academies in CAT are part of this network, together with several partner primary schools.
