Jacob Powell

Trustee

The Cam Academy Trust’s youngest-ever trustee, Jacob joined the board at just 20 years old. Despite his young age, Jacob has shown to have knowledge and experience in this area and has been an excellent asset to the Board.

What’s your career background?

“I’m currently studying for a master’s degree in management and manufacturing engineering at the University of Cambridge. Alongside my studies, I was previously a charity Trustee at Jesus College, Cambridge, a role I was appointed to after being elected as the Student Union President.

“I’ve always had a keen interest in the public sector and wanting to help people, so had been actively looking for people focused roles and how I could combine my degree knowledge with my career.

“Being a charity Trustee was the perfect combination of these two things and gave me the ambition to continue on this career path and be actively involved in helping the Cambridgeshire community – leading me to apply for the position at The Cam Academy Trust.”

What’s your favourite thing about the role?

“I have always been passionate about providing young people with a well-rounded education so they can have a good start to life.

“However, as part of my role, I’ve greatly enjoyed having the opportunity to engage in sustainability matters, keeping up to date with trends and initiatives we should be engaging with and introducing a consistent strategy across the Trust which I’m hoping to implement over the next few years.”

What do you find useful or positive about being part of The Cam Academy Trust?

“Since joining the Trust, I was made to feel welcome from the get-go. Sue Williamson, the Chair of the Board, has been fantastic in pushing me to achieve my best and is committed to my own personal development, which I’m extremely thankful for.

“Yvonne Corkin, Clerk to the Board, and my mentor Sebastian Kindersley, who also sits on the Board, have also been excellent in checking in on me regularly and making me feel a part of the Trust. I love being part of a community that encourages us to grow, pursue our passions and achieve excellence for all.”
